919 2017. Porsche Presents 919 Hybrid and LMP1 Team in Monza

After test drives on the circuits of Valencia (Spain), Aragon (Spain), Vallelunga (Italy) and Paul Ricard (France), Porsche will officially present the new 919 Hybrid on March 31. The venue for the unveil is the high-speed racetrack in Monza, Italy, set in the famous Royal Park, close to Milan. There, the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) teams will gather for the first time to conduct a joint two-day test on April 1 and 2, better known as the official WEC Prologue.

In both 2015 and 2016, the innovative Le Mans Prototype 919 Hybrid Porsche took overall victory in 24 Hours of Le Mans and won the World Championship titles for both Manufacturers and Drivers. The first public appearance of the title defender is eagerly awaited.

After three years of consistent top performance, the Porsche LMP Team lines up with two newly assembled driver trios for 2017. The hybrid racing car with starting number 1 will be driven by Neel Jani (33, Switzerland), André Lotterer (35, Germany) and Nick Tandy (32, Great Britain). Jani is currently a joint WEC World Champion and a 2016 Le Mans winner. Lotterer claimed the title of World Champion in 2012 behind the wheel of an Audi, and brings with him the experience gained from three overall victories at Le Mans, while Tandy formed part of the winning 2015 Porsche team in Le Mans. The sister car with starting number 2 will be shared between 2015 World Champion Timo Bernhard (36, Germany) and the two New Zealanders Earl Bamber (26) and Brendon Hartley (27). Bamber claimed joint victory with Tandy at Le Mans in 2015, while the same year saw Hartley share the title of World Endurance Champion with Bernhard.

Endurance Leaders. Porsche GT Team Holds IMSA Endurance Cup Lead After Two Races.

The Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup (TPNAEC) is IMSA’s championship within the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The four-race title builds with multiple segments awarding points per event. The exact number of segments depends on the length of the race with The Rolex 24 At Daytona having four markers that paid points – Hours 6, 12, 18 and 24 – and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring paying points at Hours 4, 6 and 12. Therefore, the highest running car during each of those segments can acquire points enough to earn that event’s TPNAEC victory without earning a class win in the race itself. In the first two races, Daytona (January 28-29) and Sebring (March 18), the No. 911 Porsche GT Team accumulated enough points to leave the “36 Hours of Florida” with the GTLM class Drivers and Teams lead. Dirk Werner (Germany), Frédéric Makowiecki (France) and Patrick Pilet (France) have accumulated 27 markers – 18 at Daytona and nine at Sebring – to lead the Drivers’ category, the same amount holds the top spot in the Team standings. The No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR is fifth in class with 17 points.

With the first two enduros completed, the Porsche GT Team “works” program will hold the lead until the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen, New York on July 2. The final round of the 2017 North American Endurance Cup will be held at Road Atlanta with additional points during the 20th Anniversary Running of the ten-hour Petit Le Mans.

Champions Porsche. 2017 GT3 Cup Challenge USA Champ to Receive 911

Many motorsport champions walk away from their racecars at the end of a season, never to experience their beloved steed again. That will not be the case for the 2017 Platinum Cup championship winner in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, a stepping-stone to professional competition in the International Motor Sport Association’s (IMSA) WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA) has announced it will award the 2017 Champion the keys to a new, specially ordered and designed Porsche 911 Carrera for a nine-month on-road journey.

Jens Walther, president and CEO, Porsche Motorsport North America.

“The iconic sports car has proven itself by producing champions on racetracks around the world for over 50 years. Since the Porsche 911 road car and race car have been inseparable, we look forward to rewarding the 2017 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA Champion with the complete 911 experience, and the opportunity to grow the relationship with our brand.”
